Rodeo Romance
Holly Bates
27 - 28 April 2018
Rodeo Romance is a new body of work by Holly Bates, which explores the artist's personal fasciation with the aesthetics of the western genre in combination with its lack of queer & especially lesbian representation. In order to ‘destroy the monolithic heterosexism of conventional narrative cinema’ the works aim to reimagine the genre by inserting an underlying queer narrative (Wilton, T. 1995).Rodeo Romance showcases three new works: Spurs & Dust: a written and performance based piece and two sculptural works titled Burnt Sugar & Rodeo Romance.
